If you want plants, plants growing on wood apparently works. With plastic plants wedge the bottom between 2 rocks and oscars tend to leave them alone

If you want to cover pipeworks/heaters get one of those plants with a sucker on that hang down. You will need to put a weight on each arm so that it falls back down when your oscar attacks it and lifts it up (a small piece of lead wrapped round it works well)

I've even tried ping pong balls, made a big hole and sunk it on the bottom of the tank but Tiger is not interested at all; he is moody but he recognizes me and other family members but he is afraid of the guests or outsiders, he gets angry when he is hungry and bites the gravels fearcely! sometimes he jumps out of the water and bashes the tank walls! but he doesn't attack the pleco anymore they r friends now! such an amazing fish!
and i think he feels more comfortable when the lights r on!pretty cool

OK SCRAP THAT!!! He got sick and tired of me ignoring him the other night as I was laying down reading a book and patting the dog. Next thing I know I see a gaping mouth latching onto the plant tops and wrenching them until the broke or came loose!!! What a bloody pain. So I decided to sit there and pat him instead. Bloody fish!!! haha

they can be brats for attention

Mine plays games with me, creeps up and stares at me, but when I turn my head he swims backwards until he is behind the bubbles thinking I can't see him anymore

Hi,
I'll put my 2 cents in even though I have only had a Tiger Oscar for one month. He is still very young, maybe 4-5 inches.
I know, I haven't a clue as to what I am in for.

Well I purchased some Marimo balls, moss balls, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I had to put them in his tank and then leave for the rest of he day. He backed away from them initially. I will have to report in the next few days as I observe him in action.
So far he is not destructive at all. I enjoy feeding him by hand and he seems to thrive on it. It also creates less of a mess because he does not overload his mouth and scatter food everywhere.

I do have two fake plants and so far he does not bother them at all.
