Has anybody else on the forum used reverse flow undergravel filter plate setup?. Many forums have people saying they 'HAVE' used with great success.

Looking at this for my new tank as i feel it must contribute in at least some way of maintianing a good cleaning setup. However all the information I can find is a bit conflicting with some saying its good and others saying it doesnt work very well.

Was looking at having two power heads with one in each corner at rear of the tank. The power head would be sitting a couple of inches above substrate. Each powerhead will have its own sponge filter drawing the water into and directly under the plates.

My setup will also have two external canister filters with 1200L/Min capacity running and returning at each rear corner as well.

May actually have power heads paired up back to back at rear centre of tank and canister filter inlet pipes in rear corners.

Any views on how good this setup would be or is it a wasted excercise. Also what rating of power head would be recommended to ensure powerfull enough water stream through under the plates.

I think this sounds like a good set up the powerheads will pick up any rubbish that is pushed off the substrate.im not sure what size powerhead you would need but you will need to clean the foam filters as often as you can to maintain their efficiency. Many people who put down reverse flow filtration have never even tried so dont worry too much about negative feedback. Let us know how good your new set up is when you set it up.

I will be purchasing/setting up a 150 shortly. Currently,
I have a 30 with a UGF and and outside whisper. This tank
has been set up for atleast 15 years and there is hardly
anything under the plate, which I guess is a good thing.
Anyways, I believe in filtration, water movement. The guy in the pet store I use states the UGF is like when a car had wooden wheels. However, I'm still leaning towards the UGF. My question is that I have read that there are powerheads that also have a reverse flow feature (if I'm reading it correctly) are these any good. If I go with the UGF in my 150 I would run it with 1 powerful powerhead
and then have 2 of the largest cascade canister filters one
on each end of the tank, I will also have a air pump pushing a bubble wand or something through the middle of the tank. How does this sound. Do you think I'll be keeping a clean tank with hopefully just a weekly water change.

I have now added a reverse flow UGF to my 100g (4ft x2ft x2ft). I have used the output from a fluval405 to push the water through the whole plate. I am waiting on a gravel tidy however my oscars dont do too much digging. I will give an update on how things go

how do u rate the fluval??????????

ive got a fluval 204 on one of my tanks and running fluval 404 on another tank and in personally think these are the best canisters around, but if you search feedback on the web most people dont like the fluvals much.

in saying that i have dumped the ribbed piping and replaced it with standard clear tubing as the clear tubing is much easyier to keep clean.

let me know if you rate yr fluval or no.
thanx
