Pretty sure this is a red Devil 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Somebody sent me an e-mail the other day with concerns about a lump that had developed on their Oscar's head. When they finally sent me a photo, their Oscar wasn't an Oscar. I'm pretty sure it's a red Devil, what do you guys think? Never kept them before.

Funny looking oscar HEHEHE

Artemis how do you know its male. Is it because of the lump on the head? I know some fish both the female and the male get the lump

It could be a female, but i find that unlikely, peresonally, considering it seems to be a large specimen- and the fact that he said the hump was grown quickly. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm 75% sure.

Artemis is on this one. It's a male. Both male and female RD's develop humps but the males is much larger. Heck mine's a female... check her out.

That's the difference. I'm not sure how anyone can confuse an oscar with a red devil. By the way, I've never been convinced that the Red Devil and Midas Cichlid or the Thick Lipped Cichlid aren't all the same fish.

Its either a Midas or Red Devil, both look really simillar, the fish in that photo though is definately a male, females dont develop nuchal lumps like the one in that photo.

Funny how he thought it was an oscar though
