it has been my experience that h.o.t. filter work fairly well in smaller aquarium. however for oscar tanks and any other messy cichlid species i believe that they are not as efficient as external canister type filter with many drawers for media.they will work well as a supplemental filter system but really should not be used as a primary filtration setup.
