Two oscars one picking on the other 2 Months ago
I really hope someone can help me! I have two oscars in a 55 gallon tank. When we first purchased the oscars one got sick and was not eating for approx 5 days it is slightly smaller then the other oscar. The larger oscar (again not by much) is picking on the one. It will chase the one all over the tank. The one being picked on will hide and when it ventures out again our albino is all over it. The odd thing is when its feeding time the one that is being picked on has no problem getting food! in fact he will eat 6-7 pellets before the other one can get one. Has anyone been through this? Should we get a bigger tank? More tank mates? I would hate to have to get rid of one and it would have to be the more aggressive but its so pretty! please someone help me

Firstly, welcome to the site

Okay, you've answered your own question, yes, you need a bigger tank for two Oscars, 55 gallons is a minimum for one Oscar. The best thing you could do at this particular time is to find a new home. For one of the Oscars, preferably the bully. Just because some fish are the same species, it doesn't mean they will always get on. The charges are, even in the bigger tank, they might not still on. In my opinion, this is the best advice I could give you at the moment

This aggression may get less as they get older, however as OFL said your tank is not big enough for 2 oscars. Oscars get massive, 1ft long and thick. Imagine 2 of those in your tank. The best thing to do is rehome one. When i have had aggression problems i have always rehome the aggressor. Some oscars are just down right mean

I agree with OFL and delboy, you need to either get a larger tank or get rid of the aggressor. The aggression is most likely caused by the Oscars territorial nature and being put into a tank that is not big enough for two of them.

A fish is truely great when it isn\'t satisifed with the tank as its territory, and jumps out to claim your living room.
