Too small to Turn? 1 Month, 1 Week ago
Hi there..
im setting up my tank so i can get some Oscars. I decided to do a D.I.Y rock background that i found on the internet..

But having a look at the width of the Tank, it's roughly around 35 to 38 cm long.. im inexperience in keeping Oscars.. so will my future Oscars be ok and not too squeezed in as they turn? Any experience advice or expert help with be appreciated.. ty

Do you actually mean depth? [front to back]these rock backgrounds can look stunning but unfortunately because of the way they are designed, to resemble real rock, they do take up quite a bit up the tank. It does rather defeat the object of getting a big tank in the first place. Just stick a black background on the tank, put some nice rock and some large aquarium wood in the tank and it will look great.

just to make you aware, some of the foam backgrounds that do look very much like real rock are actually made as a filter. I think they work on the same principle as a under gravel filter. That's why the cost is so high. its not really up to the job for oscars but can look good but real rock looks better and is cheap if you go find some yourself.

38 cm is about 15 inches or so. most of the diy backgrounds ive seen online come out to be about 2-3 inches thick. personally i would forgo the diy since it would reduce the volume of the and narrow it down to about 12 inches. remember that in time your oscar could grow to 14 inches or so. i think it would be a little to narrow for your oscar.
