Hello and thank you for dropping in on us. Setup in December 2006,
Oscarfishlover.com has claimed the ranks and is now the most visited
Oscar Fish website on the Internet. Our aim is to educate people on the
correct way to look after the Oscar Fish Cichlid.
The
information on the website has been written in simple terms so
beginners will learn quickly and not make the same mistakes many of us
did in the early days before we had the benefit of the World Wide Web. Please
browse our website where you will find lots of helpful information. If
you can't find the information you are after then please register an
account and use the forum where you will find lots of helpful people
who will be more than happy to help you out. It's also a great place to
hang out and chew the fat with other members as well. Anybody who has been keeping fish for a while will agree that this hobby is highly addictive. Once you've got one fish, you want another, then another and then another. Aquatic fish keeping can be so addictive that many people end up with more than one tank. The purpose of this website is to help people understand what it takes to look after tropical fish, but especially the Oscar fish. We will explain the importance of choosing the correct aquarium and filtration. You will find information on feeding your Oscar, what is healthy, what is not and how much he/she should eat. You will learn such things as what sort of fish are suitable tankmates for Oscars. We will also give you tips on subjects like why, and what can be done if your Oscar goes off his food. There is just about everything on this website needed for you to set up an aquarium and look after your Oscar responsibly, and in a manner that will help to give it a long, happy, healthy life. We hope that both existing Oscar owners and newcomers alike will find this website interesting and helpful.
If that isn't enough for you, we also have a forum where you can socialise with other members whether it be asking questions, helping someone out with a question they may have, or you can just use it to chew the fat if you like. We have lots of members who have a very good knowledge of keeping Oscars. If you want a quick, accurate polite reply then please register with us and you will have full use of the forum. If you have a health-related question then if possible, please provide us with the following water readings. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH.
I would also ask you to provide us with some information on how big your tank is and how long it has been established. Please also tell us what other fish you are keeping with your Oscar. This information is vitally important. Without knowing what sort of conditions you are keeping your Oscars in, it really is very difficult to give you any helpful advice.
Health-related advice is given as a guideline only. I, and the majority of our members are not trained professionals. For a reliable diagnosis, I would suggest you seek advice from a trained vet. I am trying to cover as much as possible on this website. There is always something new to learn about Oscars, so I update content on a regular basis.
If there is a particular category or subject you are looking for, then using the search box will make life a little easier for you. If you look in the top left-hand corner of the website, you will see a search box. Enter a phrase or word that corresponds to what you are looking for and press the enter button on your keyboard. You will then be taken to a page that will list all the matches to your phrase/word. I hope you enjoy the website and find everything that I have included on it interesting and helpful. I would just like to thank you for taking the time to visit the website. If you have found the website helpful, you may want to consider leaving a message in the guestbook. Remember that we do have a forum. Our members are always willing to help with any queries that you may have so why not join up today. I would also like to add that I am purely a hobbyist when it comes to Oscars, everything on this website is based purely upon research and my experience keepings Oscars. So I offer all advice on this website without any prejudice to myself.
A bit about me I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Penn and I live in a small fishing town on the southwest coast of England. Apart from my obvious hobby, I also enjoy many other past times including angling, both fresh water and sea. I particularly enjoy fishing for carp in the warmer months of the year, nowadays I am a fair weather fishermen, unlike when I was a teenager, I much prefer to be warm and comfortable in front of the computer when it's wet, windy and freezing cold outside. I have also been a licensed radio ham since the mid-90s and often enjoy chin wagging with people around the world. However, computers are my greatest love, especially building websites. Apart from my own personal websites, I have also found myself creating various websites for other people.
So, why and how did I come to start keeping Oscars? When it's quite ironic really. My ex-girlfriends son decided one day that he wanted to start keeping fish. So we went down to the local aquatic centre. It was then that I first clapped eyes on two Oscars looking excitedly out of their tank in a dark corner of the shop. I was absolutely mesmerized by these two little guys, no other fish in the shop seem to have the personality and appeal of these two little chaps. I didn't even think about it, I made my mind up there & then, I wanted these fish. Anyway, they were not there for very long and I don't know what ever became of them. I ended up getting myself a 75 gallon tank setup in my front room. I didn't have a clue about fish and I didn't have the Internet at that particular time. So one Sunday morning I went to the garden centre to get some Oscars. I bought two little Oscars, a red and a tiger. I also bought three tiger barbs as well. Soon after, I got the Internet and realized that looking after Oscars wasn't quite as straightforward as I had thought. I didn't even cycle my tank, that makes me cringe nowadays. Thankfully, the Oscars survived for a few years before I lost them.
So that is where it all started for me. I have studied my Oscars very carefully & closely over the years. Like most of us, I am member of countless forums. I thought it was about time that I created my own website/forum so that I could share my own personal opinion & information with people alike. I hope that you like the website and have found it helpful. If you haven't become a registered member already, please come in and join us, we are a very friendly congregation and like nothing better than helping people with their fish questions
Thank you for reading and enjoy Oscarfishlover.com as much as I do
