I did. lol My well water normally has no ammonia at all. I had it treated two days ago, and now it is reading between 0.5 and 1.0 ppm on my API liquid test kit.

I was just trying to see if anyone else have ever experienced this. I just wanted to see if it may be caused by the treatment since the treatment used chlorine to kill off all the bacteria in the well.

I recently had my well water treated for bacteria. They said they treated with sodium chloride, I think. Can that cause an ammonia spike in my tap water? I have never had ammonia in my tap water before. I am going to wait a few days before doing a water change, and now I will definitely have to wait before setting up my new aquarium.

Hey guys, what's the best way to hold the glass lids down on my new tank? The one he is in now has the plastic hoods, but the new one has the glass tops with the front part that hinges open. I am worried he will try to escape and break that glass. He has hit the plastic hoods a few times before. The only thing that kept him in were the heavy stones on the lids.

I got my 75 gallon tank TODAY!! I found a brand new 75 gallon tank with cabinet, glass tops, AND LED lights (clear and blue) for only $360 at my favorite pet store!! Oh man, I am like a kid on Christmas morning. Now, I need to buy all the other stuff for it. lol I am taking Groucho out of the 55 gal and putting him in the 75 with all new stuff, so I gotta start all over again. lol It's gonna be so fun!

So....I am getting an Aqua Top CF400. This one has four stages while my other only has 3. What is the recommendation for the filter media in each stage? (I plan on using some of my old media, as well, so I can cycle faster.) Also, my glass tops.....I'm so nervous he is gonna toss them open and flop right on out. What do you guys do? I have large stones on my hoods right now, but I obviously can't use those on my glass tops. lol

Oh and of course, what is the best way to get this big guy out of his old tank and into his new one? He is a good 12 inches now.

So....I know, I know. I don't hang out here enough any more. I am thinking of getting this 75gal tank set up for Groucho, and I want to use my same filter I have now. It's an Aquatop CF300...it's got for UP to 75 gal. Is that really adequate filtration for a 75 gal tank alone? Groucho will be in there alone.

Groucho has been jumping out of the water a LOT the last few days. Not out of the tank, since I have rocks on my lids....just out of the water at the surface. I think it was the heater the first day, since I got a little bit of a jolt when I stuck my hand in the water and the other hand on the wall. So, I removed that heater and put a spare heater in. Now, I have a good Fluval ordered...just waiting on it to arrive. BUT, back to the original question. What else can cause him to jump like that? He is still very healthy, with a great appetite. As I was typing this, he did it again. lol He is in the 55 gal tank all alone. My husband and I were talking and thinking maybe he is feeling a bit crowded. We are still on the look out for another tank, but there aren't a lot of options in our area.


Anyway....anyone have any ideas?

Well, Groucho has decided he doesn't like roommates. He had a pleco and a pictus in there, but after much bullying from him, I decided to move those two to another tank. My daughter wants some Mollies, anyway, so it worked out well. So he is all alone in his tank, and couldn't be happier!

Is this normal?? I gave Groucho two live crickets last night, which in inhaled, but when he,uh, did his business today, the crickets were still whole. Only thing was (and this is way gross) that the crickets were covered in this white mucus. I know....sorry. BUT, I have never seen this before. The crickets/bugs I have given him in the past have never exited him looking almost as they did upon entrance.

My son got a tiny hatchling Red Ear Slider back in April for his birthday. Up to now, all has been great with the little guy! Growing like crazy. He was about the size of a quarter when we first got him...a bit bigger, maybe. Now, two months later, he has doubled in size. We have him in a 10 gal tank, with a light and basking rock, and have been feeding him the floating baby turtle pellets. Oh, the tank is about a quarter the way full of water. I only just yesterday found an internal filter for it. Up to now, I have been doing water changes. Anyway....now he won't eat!! For a few days now, he just lets his food float there, without so much as a glance at it. I even bought him some tiny freeze-dried shrimp that I was told they love. Nope...nothing. Is this a stage they go through, or what?? Otherwise, he is fine. Swimming about and everything normally. His eyes look clear and his shell is still hard and healthy-looking.

Oh, I have been feeding him in his habitat. I didn't learn until yesterday that this is a no-no.

Any ideas....anyone???

Anyway, Amber says these white dots have always been on his fins, but I'm not so sure. The goldie's tankmates are fine...in fact, they all are eating great, too. I do have sand in the tank, but I try to keep it stirred. Here is a pic I took today.

I think I may have made too many changes in my tank lately. I tested my water yesterday, and my readings were ammonia-0.25; Nitrite-0; and Nitrate-20ppm. I replaced my filter cartridges on HOB's out of necessity (they were falling apart). I hated to do it b/c I knew the new canister wasn't fully cycled yet. THEN I went and added sand like a week later.

So I guess replacing the filter cartridges and the substrate caused my ammonia to spike a touch? I have done two 50% WC's in the last week, followed by Prime.

To refresh everyone's memory, I have a 350 AquaTop canister along with two Penguin 100's on a 55 gal tank. The stock is 7-8 inch O, Pictus Catfish and a newly added (a couple of weeks) Pleco.

**Yes, I know overstocked. But, my mom had to rehome one and she had no one else to give it to. We are looking for a new tank ATM. Until then, I am doing extra WC's.

Yes, I finally did it yesterday, and it went a LOT more smoothly than I expected....although Groucho was none too happy about being moved around.

I had to use hot glue to seal my plexi-glass to my lids to cover some gaps b/c I didn't have any silicone. Well....the plexi-glass came loose. So, now I have to use silicone....but it takes a few days to dry, right?? I can't leave my tank lidless for that long! Any suggestions??

I had my kids go dig around outside today to see if the earthworms were out yet, and yes...they are!! We found two tiny babies, but they got Groucho excited, just the same. He actually was quite upset when he realized I only had two tiny ones to give him. He made circles in the tank, looking for more for quite a bit.
