Hi everyone im new here but not in fish breeding an old hand at somthings new in other directions.. at the moment I have 3 tanks running 6foot tropic, 3x3x3 tropic and a fry tank 1 footer.. Ive uust moved 1000km and lost only 2 in the move but lost heaps befor I left to people that idnt know how to look after them.. so ive restocked and have included my old favs the oscars.. I have a black and orange and his new girlfreind a albino x I think as she is purple and pink depending on her mood and shes a long fin fin very pretty when she grows up... my question is to everyone.. at the moment they are in the community tank and loving it.. should I give them a new home I thought a 4×2×2 would that be big enough cause that about the only space I have left in my bedroom..they are all cramped at the moment the big tank got a bug from somewhere so everone is sharing the smaller tank till I get it up and running tomorrow and il have grat pics...thanks for having me..

Hi there Angela, welcome aboard. You certainly got some nice tanks there, I would love to see the 3 x 3 x 3', you don't often see square tanks like that. They had one at a local fish store I used to frequent, they used to keep all sorts of fish in there.

Your 4' x 2' x 2' is just big enough for a couple of Oscars, but I don't think there's any room for anything else.. Having said that, the dimensions you gave, how far up the tank does the water come? Normally it's not 24 inches, it's normally 21 or 22 inches, that would make quite a big difference to how much water the tank holds.

You have an Oscar than is purple/pink? You've gotta post a picture or even video so we can see. :) Instructions are at the end of this message.

I always try to follow the advice and accept the knowledge of learned professionals and enthusiasts who have come before me. Considering that, oscars are quite happy to be alone. In fact, unless, you get very lucky and find a compatible pair (or possibly two females that tolorate each other) oscars will be happier alone. A 4x2x2, or 120 US gallon, is a great tank for a single oscar and is acceptable for a compatible pair, but definitely not ideal. A 180 or 210 gallon is a much better choice for two oscars. Still, if the oscars are not a male/female and compatable, they will not get along. Oscars will attack any other cichlid that comes within 4 feet. So, unfortunately, you'll likely have to re-home one of them.
