Hi everyone, been keeping fish for long time most of that time new world Cichlids. After flippin around with different fish species I got fed up with cost and high maintenance of certain fish. I sold off my last collection and needed to fill my 400g. I never kept Oscars. My uncle is and always been a huge fan of Oscars. He threw out the thought to me. So I went out and bought 6 Oscars., 3 albino and 3 tigers.
They are about 4 inch and in my 400g with a drip system of fresh water. Let me tell you already they are just a joy to have. I'm going out today to get more tankmates.

Welcome to OFL. I know of you from MFK. I am in N.Ontario, not really neighbors, but kinda, lol. If I could offer any advice it would be to let the Oscars mature a few more months and see how the compatibility shakes out before adding other fish. I know you have plenty experience with big fish, Umbees etc, but Oscars are a fair bit different from most cichlids as far as maturing, as in slow. Good luck and lets see some update pics or vids.

Hi, thanks for the advice neighbour ! Lol.

Unfortunately I just read your message after I added 6 fire mouths and 6 chocolate Cichlids lol.

What do you mean ? See if the Oscars are compatible with other fish?

I have always found Oscars to be quite tolerant of other species, but not much with each other. In almost 50yrs of Oscar keeping I have had a grand total of 3 pairs that were a good match, and one pair is still jury out. I have a pair of Red O's sharing a 180g. 10 months old, around 9ins each. They rumble here and there, not enough to separate yet, but could go worse any time. My other pair is a confirmed M/F, 4 and 5yrs old. They have a 220 to themselves. Your 400g will surely make a higher percentage for success, but 6 Oscars??? Eeeek, I dunno, lol. Quick question.. you ever sell any fish to Finatics in Mississauga?

I hear ya, that challenge of pairing up really intrigues me! Good to know!
I have 18 fish right now all small, if I get 2/3 of them all to work out I'm happy. Maybe a few might die. Always like getting more then I need and then select.

As for Finatics I was actually just there on Wednesday lol.
I have sold fish to him , yes.

That's really awesome how Oscars have a unique sense to them with breeding.

Where can I see photos of your O's?

I'm Mike by the way.
Will definitely be hitting you up for some advice as these will definitely not be the only 6 O's I have probably lol.

I have lots of Oscar pics, but most are on Photobucket. That site went for a turd, so I need to transfer to Imgur. Will get to it soon enough. I got Festae and RTM from Finatics in Nov 2014. Possibly via you? Also have female Dovii, an offspring of Big Blue. Owner was a reg on MFK, damn if I can remember his screen name. Got it from a lady in Alliston, Pinky, Pink something?? I believe you guys know each other

Oh yes I remember, that Dovii was from Windsor area I think.
Yes I got some Festae about 4 to 5 years ago then gave a pair to my uncle who bred lots of them and unloaded some to Finatics. They are a good blood line. The female was a Ecuadorian and male was a Peruvian.

I really missed my new worlds and I'm glad to be back. I'm reserving a 180g in hopes to acquire Haitiensis. Might having to end up going state side for that though in the spring.
