Garry519 created the topic: Hello All

I've had a community fish tank for years now and I am looking for something different. I have always wanted large fish and I am very keen on keeping an Oscar or two.
I have now got the space for a larger aquarium - 60" x 24" x 24" (496 litre). I believe this to be big enough for an Oscar.
I'm looking at a sand substrate with a few large pieces of bog wood for decoration.
Any advise would be gratefully appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing from you all

Hi Garry and welcome to OFL. Yes indeed the 150 US gal( 566 L by those measurements) tank you have in mind will make a great home for an Oscar. Along with living space, clean water and a quality, varied diet are the keys to successful Oscar keeping. Oscar is a messy fish, fast growing with big appetite. Any Oscar tank requires heavy filtration, both bio and mechanical. Being already years into the hobby, I expect you are familiar with the nitrogen cycle and how it works in the aquarium? Make sure you have a complete cycle in the new tank before adding fish. Beyond that, keep the Oscar in clean water, feed it well and watch it grow. Any questions at all, just ask!

I may not be the Boss, but I'm ALWAYS right!
