Yea, my two do the same exact thing. I just now myself did a 30% water change because I have medication in the tank. Each and every time I do a water change or vacuum the gravel, my fish do exactly the same. They retreat to a log with holes (made of clay) and hide like babys.

Good for you on keeping your replacement / replenishment water in the same room as your aquarium.
So, do you have a heater in the tank too or no?

Those stick on thermometers are pretty accurate. I use them myself, one on each end of the tank. Then I have a metal strip thermometer that I use remotely to check the temp of my faucet water. You've got to get doing the water changes down to a science so it''s quick, painless and easy. The water python has made such a dramatic effect on making it easy, that's for sure.
Vacuum in one direction and then switch it to refill in the other direction.

So, what did you name that fish anyway, "Lucky?"

LOL… no I’m going with “Dirty Harry”, and if I find out later on that it’s a female, than I’ll change it to “Dirty Harriet” :P

I said that jokingly, but "tongue in cheek" too because really he is Lucky that you are trying the best you can there. I hope he makes it as I'm a big fan of "Dirty Harry" myself.

Do you fell lucky… Well do ya punk :P

I’m noticing a difference in his reactions already!! He’s starting to move stuff around, and I’m getting kinda scared to do the water checks, every time I open the lid, he’ll swim up to it, thinking that I’m going to feed him, I’ll stick the vial in the water and he attacks it… and my finger isn’t too far away. It’s back down to zero, I’m just think I’m going to get into a routine of changing the water in the morning before I go to work, than again when I get home… He’ll get used to it by the time I get the other tank cycled, and get him into it, he’ll probably wonder what’s going on when I don’t have to change the water every day :P

If you do that daily (morning and night water changes)
HE will most likely live. He IS Lucky..

Not too many people would do that chore for a month or so. Most would just let nature take its course and then run right out and buy yet another fish.
Good for you! ;)

Well… theirs probably a difference in most people and me.. They can probably hop in their car, drive down to the local pet store and get another one.. as for me, I’ve got to drive 30 minuets one way to the closest store that carries very little pet supplies, and the stuff they do carry isn’t say much… I’ve got to drive two hours one way to the nearest pet store that carries the supplies that I need.. the benefits of living in the middle of Podunk Egypt. So you make due with what you have!!!

Ever do mail or internet order?

This place is good because its so complete. Consider ordering a free catalog as it's a great reference tool for things like medications etc. etc. Every type of filter available etc too. Often prices are better then at stores too.

Gotta run..
