No, I either get the bloodworm out a few hours before, or put a little drop of warm water in an ashtray with the bloodworm. The bloodworm aren't actually for the Oscars, they are really intended for Jade Cichlid, Clown Loach and catfish. I once made the mistake of putting a whole block of bloodworm in. It was swallowed in one go and nobody else got a look in.

OK, that's what I do too. I put the frozen cube into an empty water bottle and add some warm water to let it defrost some before feeding. I almost drank from it once by mistake and swore I would find a better bottle or container to use, but I still just grab am empty water bottle out of convenience.

Well, I've got 5 zebra danios still left alive and the two Oscars just can't seem to catch them. It's fun to watch as the chase goes on many times a day. The Oscars are really getting some exercise but those lucky 5 are hanging in there. (5 of 14 left alive).

They probably feel it home. I am sure they have plenty of predators chasing them in the wild. I have got three lemons tetras and five guppies in the hospital tank with the Oscar and he hasn't attempted to go after them. I don't think they were too happy when I put the Oscar in with them. They all huddled in a corner for a couple of days. I think they're feeling a little bit more brave now and confident since he hasn't tried to eat them.

I was in a fish shop once and they had a full size oscar in there. They told me they didnt feed him/her for a week and then fed him frozen bloodworm(not defrosted) and the oscar ate a whole pack(24 i think). I assume 1 block at a time tho

I'm feeling bad agaan... :-( I'm feeding my oscars (2 big ones and 2 smaller ones) frozen bloodworm - a small block each. The grab.. spit out.. and a little later they clean the ones that escaped from the block - it doesn't look as if they've got a problem with it frozen. However, I notice that they are not too keen on the frozen or defrost brine shrimp. It makes quite a mess in the tank and they can't pick each and every little bit up. They are not too keen on the mussels either...

Try dropping a tic tac into an ice cube maker, let it freeze and then take the frozen block out to eat the tic tac. None too pleasant.. Reach into your freezer for a frozen TV dinner but instead of defrosting and heating it to eadible temperature, plop it onto the dinner table and enjoy!

That's how I envision it would be to simply drop frozen cubes right into the aquarium.....;)
(But that's just me..)

jake you have a point however even tho sometimes they act human/dog like they are fish and are not the same as us. Cant really compare the two. If your fish eats frozen food when its frozen then its ok. It dont take long for stuff to defrost in a tank (or a oscars stomach)

I guess......
Different strokes for different folks...
All I know is my fish are "happy" when they eat.
(MY Fish don't have to spit the food out, they can just enjoy it. I wonder WHY they need to spit it out.. Hmmmmmm??? )

Some people give their dogs a bowl of fresh water to drink while others are quite content to let the dog drink from an open toilet. But the dog gets his water.(I know, disgusting right?)

(Besides, I had this exact same conversation in another thread with little effect on anyone changing their feeding habits as a result.) E-nuff!
