First, check www.fish-school.com/ . They can do tricks. They can also beg for food. They also use tactics to outsmart their prey. If you see them lying on their side, they do that for they are lazy but also to trick prey like crayfish thinking that it is prey. Then, they attack. It is also done by the kalingono. Also, they also forage for food.

I read recently about a study of Oscars done by a biologist who said his research showed that Oscars have the intelligence quotient equal to a 3 year old Orangutan.

I believe him. If O's had hands we would be in trouble!

Also, their most profound ability: hypnotising everyone who's around one for any short space of time into loving them unconditionally.

I guess we have to ask how serious your speech is? If you need hard, scientific evidence of smartness, you're going to be a bit hard pressed for information. On the other hand, if you want charming, funny anecdotal evidence, this is the place!

Believe or not, I have silver dollars that have good memories. They start panicking when I stir the tank cover. It is possible that oscars are often claimed smartest because they are somehow extroverted.

I think oscars are smart because they can identify their owner and unfamiliar object, and also understand gesture, for example when I touch the fish food container, they will splash and stare at the lid. But when I put my face, they become aggressive and wanted to peck it :(

also oscars love moving or rearranging objects. isn't that creative.

hope this helps your tomorrow speech.
