No the substrate as always been the same.

Thanks and it will get to 1.000 someday if Astro keeps on living for at least 10 years :)

phosphates, and or sunlight?

What lighting do you have? How long do you leave them on (the lights)? Have you tried reducing the photo-period in your tank?

Phosphates is possible... never tested, but the filter has a pad for silicates and phospahtes for some weeks now. Sunligh no because the tank doesn´t get direct sunlight.

The lighting has already been changed and is now (for the last 4 weeks or so) adequate. 8h of light and already tried more and less. Never-mind, just took out he plants and done a massive cleaning. In the next few days no lights on that should take care of the problem.

yes, blackouts work really well. Still need to figure out what caused it, but ok.

After had changed a few weeks ago the lights and fertilizers and added the pad of Silicates and phosphates remover on the filter, the only thing left that may have caused this is the spreading of previous fertilizers on the water that feed the algae  , the new type of fertilizeres does not let anything go to the water ;)

One other issue that I've remembered while reading some stuff... frozen food have high level of phosphates... no matter after removing live plants and major cleaning last week and lights out for 3 days no algae coming up again :silly:

Today removed the 2 fake plants that I'd add when took out live ones because Astro was playing ball with them :woohoo:

Also removed half of the gravel, no need for such amount without the live plants... now the tank only has 2 pieces of wood some rocks and a fake plant...

Pictures tomorrow or someday :P light only on 5h now just to test algae if they rise up again no problem I'll just have to save on light bill and have no light at all besides natural light that comes from the windows
