Well Paul is right. If you start feeding soely beef heart that is all they crave. What I do is first two feedings of the day is Pellets, and the evening feeding is Beef heart. This way they still desire both. A couple feeder fish every two weeks. Variety is key! ;)

True.

I've been feeding as their 'staple' diet pellets in the morning and afternoon...and then either corn, brine shrimp, or bloodworms later on. I feed 4 times a day...breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night before bed snack. The last two feedings tend to be smaller.
For a treat small minnow feeders once a week at most and about once a month some live shrimp in the afternoons.

thanks guys.. the thing is i dont know what my oscars have been brought up on.. so i'm experimenting and varying.. I've been searching high and low for the pellets but i cant find it at any aquarium.. but i did manage to find a distributor and have asked for hikari pellets.. its more like 3 times that i feed them.. bloodworms are the easiest to get.. so prob twice a day of that.. and one time serving of lamb heart or prawn (not live ones) or lil feeders i grow myself (guppies platies, mollies..) would any cichild pellets do? and again i find the price of these pellets high(atleast here) and the quantity so lil that i might as well not get them.. well lets see how it goes.. anythin for the babies.. :)

I could be wrong but I question the validity of that.

Worms should always be a 'treat' or secondary food choice but if you choose to offer your fish a variety of options I've found no info that bloodworms directly 'cause' HITH. There are a host of other 'tank' concerns (i.e. poor water quality, stress) that are more likely to cause the disease.IMHO if your tank is well maintenanced HITH should be of little concern....even for a fish (like Oscars) that can be considered more 'prone' to the illness...

bloodworm, earthworm, beefheart, pork spleen and the likes are all believe to
cause HITH.... but the truth is...they don't. those items are all high protein
foods and will create a lots of bioload when excreted by the fish. whenever you
feed your fish with those high protein foods, you must do water change a day after
to make sure there will be no surge of toxin in your tank. those unusual surge
of toxin if overlook, is the culprit..and lead to HITH.

actually, you are partially right...those food can trigger HITH but not
the food itself but the after effect of them on waste which usually ignored
by the hobbyist.
