ha ha yeah i had the same question too.. turn the pack and read the ingredients and they seem to have marginal differences only.. and the best part is the hikari site says continuous use required for results ha ha.. been tryin it for a couple of days and some of my O's eat and the tigers dont even go near it.. my arowana also doesnt seem to wanna eat the sticks from hikari and i so hate to starve them.. so i gave in and dropped some guppies into the oscar tank and a couple of 3 inch gold fish into my arowana tank..

goldfish are very unhealthy as a live food for any fish

a. they are high in fat (as many coldwater fish are)
b. contract diseases often, as they are mass bred
c. high in thiaminese, a chemical that destroys thiamine (vitamin b1) and can cause a nutritional deficiancy

here's an article on Thiaminase and what it exactly does.

I just fed my O's some minnows and my big guy swallowed one and I can still see him alive and breathing in the O's mouth...he shoots out every once in a while...apparently still ok enough to do it.

I hate this...feeding live, and now I have to worry about 1. my O choking and 2. extra suffering for the feeder fish. He literally swallowed the guy whole and the feeder is just laying inside my O's mouth.

I wish I didn't feel like I had to do this. I do think predatory fish should chase and eat live prey every so often...but it doesn't make it any easier for me...even with feeders.
My O is just swimming around like he doesn't even notice but I see the minnow's head right inside his mouth breathing and looking around. I know they are predatory fish but I really don't care for this. It was nice to see them go after them though...kinda like they are healthy. Still....this part of having Oscar's is not happy for me. Kinda why I'll never feed them more than I have to live...

if it bothers you to watch them suffer..... kill them first? i catch out a rosy red every day, take my fingernail just behind its eyes and break its skull. its instant death. and then my bichir eats it almost immediatly. dont get any fresher than that lol.
