if it bothers you to watch them suffer..... kill them first? i catch out a rosy red every day, take my fingernail just behind its eyes and break its skull. its instant death. and then my bichir eats it almost immediatly. dont get any fresher than that lol.

I want my O's to get to chase and eat so I won't kill them. I think it's good for them every so often. I used to have to kill the mice with my speckled king snake...hated it because I used to bang them against a wall in a brown paper bag and they used to shit....and always a drop of blood...just a drop. Got them in a brown lunch bag and when I got them home...BANG! against the wall. Twitching, a bit of blood, and some excrement before I laid them in...mice needed to be still warm for him to feed. LOL I am a diehard atheist but I swear I used to apologize to those mice beforehand..."Hey. listen I have this snake and he has to eat so anyways... sucks for me too...sorry but we have to do this..."

I get your point, Johnny.
I love my all my fish and actually my Guppy breeders have become community tanks in the end.
My O don't care for feeder fish and the last one i threw in is still living with my fish for several months. Funny to see a tiny fish hanging out with my O and SD's.
He does not come close to my Gar,btw. ;)
On the other hand my Oscar surpised me the past few days.
Last week i gave him some Hikari pellets with the worms and he ate the worms ,but spit the pellets out.
Now 2 days ago he ate some Hikari algae wafers, and what i neverexpected, yesterday HE ATE SOME PELLETS! :woohoo:
Now i checked today and he ate a whole bunch of them. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
My oscar seems to get bored with food and needs a switch in his diet, but this is an incredible change, for it's the first non live food he has been eating in over a year and it hope he keeps eating the pellets.
It sure looks like it at the moment.
I am so happy!

Damn king snake used to get out all the time and curl up in my roommates pillow case...I used to raise knight anoles too....NO man don't feed him ANOLES!!! They're great pets. lol he was a cricket assassin. AND he gave me a nice little bite on the thumb...

King snakes are some MEAN snakes...not for beginners...let me say that. If you are not familiar with snakes do NOT buy a king snake. If you don't handle them early and often you are going to have a problem. LOL They SPECIALIZE in eating other venomous snakes...'nuff said. I saw one eat a king Cobra back to front like it was no problem....Cobra bit him like 10 times to no affect as he was devouring him. The cobra had numerous times as he was being eaten back to front to inject his venom and the king snake just ignored it. Wow. Truly the king of snakes...although monitors will rape snakes in the wild...even the most poisonous.

My king was an adult when I got him.

So interesting to read what other O owners feed them on :)

2 large Oscars
WE feed pellets in the morning, and then 2 blocks of bloodworm that i put in water to defost first at tea-time,
have only used peas/cucumber and prawns as extras couple of times a week,
reading what some are feeding theirs makes me wonder if we are feeding ours enough??

i also give all our other tropicals and cold water fish bloodworms every day
and they all go mad for them.

is there any big difference between the hikari gold and the bio-gold? other than price? Is it worth the extra money for the bio-gold?
