whoa. i fed my oscar a big mealworm. i can still see the worm's tail in its mouth. what should i do? should i remove it? it's in his mouth for three minutes now.

oscar is really one greedy specie. no, no need to interfere with
their eating. the mealworm will be gone in no time. when my o grab
that 2 inches mouse, the tail could be seen outside the mouth for
about 5 minutes. when i came back later, everything was gone.

it rained last night and it's that time of year so we had a ton of baby frogs hopping around this morning. One of my students picked one up and we thought Oliver might like it. We dropped it in the tank and he grabbed it and spit it out twice but then ate him up. He seemed to enjoy chasing him around for a minute. He seems fine, just curious if anyone's tried this before, it was just a common toad, nothing poisonous. I figure if they can eat worms and bugs a frog would prob be ok. I figure there would be frogs in the amazon. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were.

based on my experience, frogs and toad would be fine. but
some people says a tadpole from string of eggs are not suitable.
apparently, there are some specie that are poisonous. i am at a lost
for that because no fish could select what toad or tadpoles to grab.

I have oscar fry and i am feeding them mainly on baby brine shrimp which i hatch myself . I ordered two tubes of this BBS . I made my own hatcher out of a 1 liter plastic jug. Anyway ,the first 3 or 4 batches of BBS that i hatched came out fine within 24 to 36 hours .I would say atleast a 90% hatch rate . Now all the sudden i cant get anything hardly to hatch . I keep the BBS in the refridge with the lid on tight.I cant figure out what i am doing differant .I am wondering if there is some kinda time frame to use the eggs after they are first opened ? Another thing is that i keep them in a chrisper drawer in the fridge . this is to hid them from my kids but maybe it does something to the eggs. Any info on this would be helpful .

Thanks
Russ

sha_rk2002 replied the topic: My Oscars not accepting varieties...

Hai All,

In general many say that oscars will accept anything you feed. Previously I had set of 4 oscars which were about 2 inches, which took only the dried worms and nothing else. Then due to some issues, I gave back the oscars to the aquarium from where I bot them. Now I have 2 tiny tiger oscars (should be max 3months). Rite from the day 1 they came to me, they are not taking any pellets. When I fed dried worms they had well. Then shrimp they prefer most. Recently I gave live worms and one ocar was taking the worms non stop even after the belly was full. So I decided to reduce the quantity in future when I give live worms. Now today morning, when I fed them dried worms, they did not eat that properly and just smashed the cubes I gave. What is the reason? How can I make my oscars to eat any good food I give? They are choosy...I suffered with similar problem with my Trimac and now I have a big size pellets which my Trimac take neatly. So no issues now with it. Now I want my lovely baby oscars to eat all good foods. What can I do?

Also, when I bot the 2 baby oscars, both were of the same size, but 1 has grown really well but the other is very skinny, look very thin and the body coloration is not that good, it looks like a silver shade on its body. Still the skinny oscar also taking a good quantity if I feed shrimp.

What could be the problem???

Please guide me...

Thanks,
Shankar
