WillyG created the topic: 250 GALLON STOCK

For those of you who saw my other posts about stocking the new tank i decided to stick with oscars and the pleco. I got two oscars one is about 8 or so inches his name is shiner, then the other big guy is trooper hes about 10 or so inches. I got a few questions to go along with the good news, Trooper looks to be pretty old does anyone have any good guess as to how old he could be? also as soon as they were dropped into the tank hank instantly started bullying them, When should i expect this to stop?

First, congrats on the fish.

Second, you should have posted this under a different heading. "Official Announcements is about changes to the website"

Third, give it 2-5 days for them to sort out the pecking order. If they are both males, it may never stop.

A 10" oscar can be anywhere from 1-3 years old. It really depends on how well he was taken care of.

Ok, cool deal. How long do oscars live to be on average? I keep the water in very good condition and feed high quality pellets plus the treats like earthworms and crawdads and the occasional feeder molly from my girlfriends tank.

They can live easily over 10 years. Poor tank maintenance and too much feeding leading to fatty liver shortens their life span. By the time they are 12" they don't have to eat every day. You can go to feeding every other day or letting them fast for a couple of days in a row.
