I have an oscar for 10 months. I have a feeling that he is too short. How big would an oscar be at that age.

A healthy properly kept Oscar should grow an average of an inch a month for about the first 9 months or so. Your Oscar should be between 8-12ins. Genetics play a role, some just dont get real big, some have higher, and quicker growth rates. If you have suitable tankspace, provide plenty of clean water and offer a quality, varied diet, then you are doing your part. If your Oscar is small by average standards, then thats the way it is.

before you buy your oscar, it is at least 3 months old. It takes that long for them to get over 1" after hatching. From that point on, it will grow 0.5-1" a month until it reaches around 9 inches in total length, and the growth slows down to around 0.5" in length and the bulk starts to increase.

At 10 months of owning your oscar should be at least 7" in total length.

But that depends on food and temperature

To some degree....but more so aquarium size & water changes.

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

a stress free tank will also allow it to grow faster, meaning the oscar is the only cichlid in the tank.

5 inches for 10 months is an undergrowth... perhaps your fish has
the small genetic strain or stunt... can you post a picture...
