Goranothos created the topic: interesting O behavior

So today we are having my sister-in-law for company overnight. She gets here around 5pm, and darkness has fallen. Wife comes home and we all have dinner in the dining room, where my tank is.

I have rarely witnessed Fred, my O, behaving "normally", meaning not in the act of begging for food. Tonight, while we were all talking and having a good time, not paying attention to the tank, I got a glimpse of how Fred probably behaves when no one is watching. Apparently, having given up on receiving more food, Fred starts cruising the tank, like a shark. He starts scooping up mouthfuls of sand and then spitting them out. Then he bites the mopani driftwood and shakes it vigorously. Then, he does the same to the large resin log, even though it is too big for Fred to move. Meanwhile, my silver dollars cower underneath the corner "root" decoration.

I'm beginning to think that I probably need to get the SDs out of that tank.

My oscar is in my bedroom so very often I see his crazy behavior similar to that. He actually keeps me awake sometimes because I cant take my eyes off the tank lol

Lol dude I have grown to hate sd's !!! Not for the same reasons your describing though. Traded them in yesterday and geez what a difference the tank is I can feed lightly and everyone eats (except dory picky bitch)
Funny thing today I put a peice of spinach on a clip and watched the little het swam by curiously but didnt bite. A few minutes go by and dory starts nibbling ....game on the het went nuts and devoured it.

Probably the funniest thing my Oscar does is to scoop up some gravel, swim over and up to the top of the glass, and spit the gravel at his reflection. I've seen it a hundred times and it's still funny.

Oh I wish I could get that on video. You never know when he's going to do it. He does tend to do it a few times in a row ... next time I'll grab my phone or tablet.

When it comes to cameras mine is sneaky. It's like he knows when I'm trying to get a video and he stops and pretends he's a normal fish lol

Is it because they can sense the electromagnetic waves in the case of cell phones and wifi devices? I'd swear bettas can sense it. I've seen them dart to the other side of the tank when I've placed a cell phone close to the tank.

Fish aren't as stupid like people think, my Oscar is like a bad kid ahahah if I try to get a video of my Oscar I have to sit far away from him and be still for a long time until he ignores me.
