They are in a 55 gallon that is only filled with about 60-70% -- so about 40 gallons of water. Two oscars in a shallow 4 foot tank is not a recipe for success.

actually I have filled the tank almost to the top
and Olaf seems to be doing better
he's swimming around like normal and the other Oscar is leaving him alone
I think the red Oscar was beating Olaf up over the algae wafer
I'm keeping an eye on it and if it gets worse
I will figure something out with one of them
I promise I will not let Olaf die he's my favorite
red Oscar ( sven from frozen ) is close to being my favorite :)

Your tank is still half the size of what you need Oscar2015. You need to rehome one of your oscars immediately if you can't get a bigger tank very soon (as in yesterday). Take a look at as many pictures of oscars with HITH as you need to, until it sinks into you that YOUR oscars will look like (sooner rather than later too) that if you don't change things.

I agree 100% with Lamm. I wouldn't have thought my oscar would have gotten HITH alone in my 75 gallon. I'm very lucky to have noticed it (with the help of a few experts) at the very early stages so it can be healed. In your case, it's far easier to prevent it.

What was your water change schedule UNC-CH? Just curious (and now I am high-jacking this thread!).

By The Way
I change my water 75 % every day because I have 2 Oscars in a 55 Gallion I use Aqua Safe for the water
and so far they both look super healthy and they are eating and acting like Oscars should

I did 50% every 5 days. I think that would have been good enough. But I think I fed him too much and didn't gravel vac often enough. I have a couple inches of gravel and it takes the entire syphon time period to get through the gravel, so I slacked off and did it every other time. There was also the period before I joined this forum and knew nothing when I first got the fish and didn't change the water for a couple months ... not until the tank cycled. He was in it from day one.

We should have a fish-keeper's confessions thread, where we admit our worst fish-keeping crimes.
