Poseidon2.0 created the topic: My 2 oscar tanks

Hi ho everyone. Thought I would post a couple of video I took of my oscar tanks today. Both underwent water changes today. Have made some changes to the way I am doing the blackwater and may make a post about that too later on.

He and Severus are becoming fast friends. Least ways, Severus follows him around everywhere, despite the fact that Poseidon takes a swipe at him every so often. Mr. P the pleco and Poseidon exchanges swipes every so often, but mostly leave each other alone. Poseidon has such a pouty face. Makes me laugh. Severus is hard to see in the dimly lit tank, but he is near to the left of Poseidon throughout most of the shot.

OFL confession: Today I emptied Poseidon's 125 down around 99%, unintentionally (I usually do 90% once a week). I lost track of time for a few minutes and nearly drained his tank! Luckily I caught it in time, but damn. :pinch: As you can see above he is no worse for wear.

I have added a couple of filters (one canister and one sponge) to Darth Vader's tank as well as a new Arrow head plant (roots in) to help reduce nitrates. I already have one hob with a pothos in it. Will likely get another so that I can put the arrow head in it. Also added an Eheim 2215 to existing filtration, bringing it up to about 1400 gallon's per hour (2 canisters and two hobs) along with the two sponge filters. Darth has a pretty substantial bio-load. Would love to put him in a larger tank. Am thinking about trying to get a 90 or 110 tall. Something that will fit on the 4 foot x 18 inch stand I have for the 75. May do that by the summer.

Darth has been acting pretty aggressively towards me every time I put my hand in the tank he takes a run at me! Showing me whose boss. I think he misses pounding on Dory.

They all look great! But my god Darth has some anger issues (and I mean fish Darth, not Jack Darth :P). Amazing looking fish though.

Poseidon and Severus are super cute. The former's all sulky and the latter's just like 'wheeeee... eeeeee' and darting around everywhere. Kind of the opposite to Henry and Adie actually.

With the black gravel and lighting Poseidon looks like demon from hell to me! Great stuff, and now you know not to name anything Darth.

Wow - Vader has some serious energy. He's fun to watch. I noticed how he sort of swims without moving forward ... or undulates his body almost like a quick dance. My oscar used to do that often but not so much anymore. Great videos.

Could you take some pictures or videos of the plants and how they're secured In the filter? I was thinking of filling my filter with hydroton. It would work as a biomedia and a bed for the plant roots. I'm just concerned about it not being completely inert.

Darth is still growing up fast, has to be about 10 inches by now and really starting to go at me or whatever I put in the tank. Definitely a Dark Side fish. One thing that doesn't come out in the video is these orange flecks along the bottom half of his body. He is really getting some interesting color to him aside from his stripes.

Would he be a year old by now you think? I remember you said you bought him back in April last year, and he was probably three months old or so at the time?

Hey UNC. I will make a post about my plant filters later today (have the day off). Not sure about the hydroton as I haven't used it, but sounds like cool stuff. You should do that and report the results. I just use a sponge for them to root in, although I also have some lucky bamboo growing in a pot in my 125.

Yeah Darth has a cool, awkward swimming style. Doesn't show up so much in this video, but he has this very elegant sideways dance he does while not moving forward at all.

Though I guess the name Darth Maul is now up for grabs since Jack rehomed his red.

Hey ben when I get a chance I will post some of his "baby" vids/pics. When I had him the those orange speckles were just starting to appear on his flanks. Miss him man wish I had the room or time for another karge tank. He is a classic example of how an oscar can claim 6 ft of tank all for himself
