I'm getting an O next week. Because it's basically a rescue, we're tank swapping here, so the O can have the bare MIN size tank, until we get the 6ft we have done. That has been pushed to the top for priority now.

Get the tank, the filters, the everything. Then get the fish that will live comfortably in that tank. It's common sense to do it that way, because otherwise, you're going to have a fish with no filters or heater. Which would not be a good thing.

Note: Tank swapping. I'm going to be using Tera's tank. He has now had to push back what he wanted to do with his tank, so we could do this. It's a sacrifice on his part.

I have to get things together a little each month - Understood its an expensive hobby. Get what you have straight before you add to the problem.

I have seen Oscars in smaller tanks - Not on this site
I know it's not good for the oscar but people do it - Not on this site
I'm not saying that I am going to do that _ But yet you are doing it.
I'm trying to do what's right

- Again by not taking the advise you asked for your not doing whats right.

1: You had your oscar in a 30 gal, originally. We say 'no you need to keep 1 oscar in a 55 gal bare minimum'. You agree with the advice... then disregard it entirely, putting a second oscar in a 55 gal with terrible filtration. Somewhere around that time you were nonchalantly mentioning about your albino getting beaten up and hoping it doesn't die as well.

2: You get annoyed at criticisms about said bad filtration and pull the 'I can't afford anything else' card. You then change your mind, outright refuse to rehome either oscar and make a homemade sponge filter which is pretty much useless as any source of filtration for oscars, again totally ignoring the info and advice you had been given about what you needed as far as filtration is concerned.

3: You ask about water changes and nitrates. You get an answer, you post another thread asking if you need to do a water change if the nitrates are 40ppm, disregarding advice already given. We reiterate that you need to rehome an oscar or get a 125 gal tank, you disregard it again.

4: Even though you, by your own admission, don't have the money to do any better by the two you already had, you have now gone and gotten a THIRD oscar which you are keeping in a 30 gal which we told you wasn't enough for one oscar to begin with!

5: You're now upset people are frustrated with you because you 'take great care of your fish'.

See the problem? This is why you are coming across as trolling, and this is why I locked your previous thread.

If you want to see taking good care of your fish, look at Lamm's threads. Look at Darth's. Look at most of the members.

And I do happen to back Lamm up on this- she saved the life of my fish. Also, marine biologist. She knows what she's talking about. She's also better at maths than me, so can actually talk about footprint size, and the like.

Thanks Rogue, but while I (barely) qualify as a scientist, without a PhD and work experience calling me a marine biologist is one *hell* of a stretch :P

Anyway, I think this thread has run its course and people have definitely made their points, so I'm going to lock it for now.

Oscar2015, please listen to what people on here have to say. If you genuinely care about your pets beyond a desire to collect them, then rehome 2/3 of your oscars and put whatever money you can towards setting up one oscar in your 55 gal properly. Don't keep an oscar in your 30 gal. If you won't do this then that's your choice, but if that's the case then you are probably better off finding a different fish-keeping forum to frequent. OFL has much higher standards of care than others, and you will never find support for how you are currently treating your fish here.
