Nice pick up! I love the football shape of it. I would experiment with foods, and incorporate an epsom salt dip(for the food) into the feeding efforts. Epsom salt can kill most internal parasites, that may cause the fish not to eat. If I can find it I will pm or post a link to the ratio of salt to water.

Nice rescue! That's a really nice looking oscar. I saw how high the nitrate was. I wonder if the previous owner ever did a water change. :pinch: At least this oscar's in good hands now.

Nice rescue. Congrats on the new addition, I'm sure it will be much happier and better looked after in your hands.

Haha! I have found a Thor! ;) The showdown may have to wait though... bit mismatched atm :P

Thanks for the laugh with the typo Bri. I'm now tempted to edit one of those pictures with a stereotype, and hope you find it amusing. :P

She seems to be ok still, Tera is putting on the new filter now, and she's glaring at him. Going to try some different foods when he's done, then do a water change. Half the tank looks like a litter tray atm! (I wish I was exaggerating, but I guess there's lots of head nodding going on)

Try and get some pictures later. :)

Congrats dude.

"And in Lamm's words "Dude, honest to god plecos." *holds hands apart about 15-20cm* (correct me if the size is wrong, I'm not good at measuring hands, it's just a picture in my head of the fish inbetween the hands)"

You make me sound silly lol. But aside from that the biggest pleco was ~12", give or take. She was kept with 3 of them, a few silver sharks and a couple of other large-ish catfish if memory serves right. I think the tank was a standard 4ft but it had a sump built into one side that probably had bio media once upon a time, and the water was an interesting shade of yellow. You'd think fish couldn't be kept much worse than that but... yeah. Bleh.

Being around 25cm long, and well over a year old she probably is slightly stunted (but definitely could be worse). She's got (from the pics anyway) what looks like it could be a bit of pitting above her eye and some erosion around her nostrils. It's hard to tell though. But that's the beginnings of HITH (unless I'm seeing things), so you'll need to keep her nitrates well below 10ppm. You're definitely going to have your work cut out for you with that in a 55 gal as you know from my incessant nagging about it :P

Oh, also; in the first couple of pics it looks like she has a slight bulge on her right side. Keep an eye on that, but you know it isn't constipation at least due to how much she's pooped in the tank since you got her. Seconding the epsom salt suggestion if you can get your hands on some.

I don't make you sound silly- I make myself sound silly easy enough :P

But I can't really show hands on here! :P

We tried to take photos of the water she was in in the bucket, but the camera couldn't get the right light. I agree about the 'bio media' in the filter, due to the nitrates. Maybe he didn't know you were supposed to clean it?

I'm hoping she hasn't got HITH, but I know it's pretty likely. Water change later after we try to get her eating again. I noticed that pitting myself, but it looks like a red dot, weirdly. I'm just going to treat as if she has HITH starting anyway, what's the worst it could do? I'm just glad she won't be in the 55g for too much longer.

Hopefully some good food, space to move, and attention with clean water will hopefully get her to grow a little. She's started pacing the tank now, and wiggles a bit when I walk up.

The bulge is gone now, right after the pics were taken she took a big poop, and didn't stop for a few hours, it seems, by what's on the sand. Woah, I didn't think one fish could poop that much in a few hours! It looked like a litter tray needed changing in there!

Do not use metro to treat for HITH yet. Metro is a last resort.

Use epsom salt solution soaked pellets. 3/4 epsom salt and 1/2 cup of distilled water. Use a dropper to continually soak the pellets until it won't absorb any more of the solution. Feed the epsom salt soaked pellets for 5 days straight.
