So I did but they are stores like petco or pets mart. And I already asked if they sell 200 gal tanks but they said they don't. The biggest tanks they sell are 100gal or smaller. :/ there are a few other fish stores in the Houston area but there websites suck and I can't really search through them. So I'm gonna go there to look and see what they have to offer. But that's why I have been looking on CL to find something.

An independently owned LFS "should" be able to order you any standard size tank, up to 265 gallons or so.

The chain stores are less likely to entertain any special requests. They are like the Wal-Mart of pet stores.

I performed a similar search looking for a 120 or 180 gallon. I had figured petsmart or petco would order the tank for you since they're listed as a dealer, but they don't do that. I used the aqueon site store locator. It lets you search by town or zip and allows for a 50 mile radius. Unlike marineland, the aqueon store locator turned up 46 stores for me ... plenty of smaller stores I'd never heard of before. I'd try the link below. The other link is a list of their tanks.

I've wondered what smaller stores might charge for tanks. I found this on a site that listed aqueon tank prices new.

125 - $280
150 - $500
180 - $600
210 - $700

Does anyone know of a reliable site that I could order a 200 gal tank (or bigger) for myself instead of going through a 3rd party (ie pet store)?

Realize that if you order online and have it delivered that you also have to deal with an additional freight cost in some cases. Do you want to go glass or acrylic? Sometimes Acrylic tanks are a bit cheaper to ship and some companies offer free shipping on those. Whatever the case this is not going to be cheap.

We were thinking glass as we have heard that although acrylic it's as easy to break it does get scratches.

Just wondering if you were able to contact an independent pet store and if the prices I had listed somewhat accurate.

I've considered this place. I like their their tank dimensions.

To ask the forum for a reliable custom tank builder, I'd start a new thread with a title like, 'Anyone recommend a custom tank builder?'
