What's the dimensions of the tank? If it's 4ft long I would be tempted to only go the oscar + maybe some dithers (or perhaps one of the smaller plecos? Not sure on that though). Finding a severum large enough to be alright with an O that size may also be a challenge.

For transport, I've transported quite a few fish recently using the 5 gal bucket + battery powered airstone method without a problem. These fish were in absolutely terrible water as well and had no issues in 2 hr+ drives. As far as stress is concerned, these fish dealt with up to 12 hours in their buckets and quite frankly handled the whole thing a lot better than I did lol (drive + drip acclimation + tank setup etc). A tiny pinch of seachem safe or prime in the water will neutralise ammonia/nitrite for 24 hours if you are concerned.

For a very long journey I'd replace the airstone with a sponge filter I'd cycled in the tank previously, and would replace the bucket with something more insulated.

The aquarium bag method should work as well, but for a 3 hour drive I don't think I'd bother with the extra effort. The water really doesn't slosh around in the bucket much unless you drive like a maniac (and if you have a fish on board, don't!).

Ill be careful. And no. The tank is closer to 5 or maby even 6 ft. I agree with a severum. But ill take it one step at a time. Ill be quite happy to put a 10 cm severum in. The oscar won't do anything.

I wouldnt do pairs but thats just me. If they pair up even though they are small fire mouths maybe aggressive. Chocolate cihclids go well with oscars too. Acara and a firemouth may work. Lots of. Cool acaras out there

Even if its a 6 ft tank you would have to buy large loaches and they like to be in a group. I wouldnt do it. If your oscar is 10 inches your looking at getting all adult size fish. May not be a good idea

At the moment the oscar is in a 40 gallon tank until i get the new one ready. She is in there with a 1.5 inch clown loach. And perfectly happy. I know Oscars can get aggressive in small tanks. And there is not even a hint of any aggressiveness at all

I have hiding places for the loach but it does not use them. I remember reading that clown loaches scool. Thats why I want a few more.

This boxes can be ordered online for an small price but they are worth it. For bags, ask in your LFS for transportation bags for kois. They are not just bigger as usual but also made of an thicker material and at best you do 2 or 3 at once.

I also do not close bags with an rubber band with fishes on this size, i melt them airtight. For the bags at best 1/3 water and 2/3 air.

You can also drop some active carbon in the bag.

For transportation, the best thing is to make it as dark as possible.

I am all in favor of doing things the right way, but this is a 3hr trip to a new location, not a trip to another continent. I would rather use the bags than a sloshing 5 gal bucket, but would probably stop short of ordering a special box. If you know the delivery dates@ your lfs you can probably get what toom described for free. Mine does not reuse them and sells them for a couple of dollars.

Well rob on your method is nothing wrong and you know the devil is always in little details.

1. Its still pretty cold in north america, the box is isolated and keeps the heat at least for several hours without heating packs.

2. I would not recommend airpumps for transport topical fish. Air pumps sucks outside the water atmospheric air, without a source of heating you constantly cooling down the water temperature. In 2 to 4 hours on the road you can go from 77 F degree to 65/66 F degree.

In this Situation i would take 5 more minutes to prepare 200% as losing a fish caused by lazyness. For the price of the koi bags and box, you can use them again and again, its not lost money than from time to time you always needs this stuff
