My Red Oscar spends half his time swimming upside-down or flat on his side. Is he ok, or should I be concerned

Very far from ok. Sounds like a swim bladder failure. This is most always terminal. How long has this been going on?

Thats a bad report. I am fairly certain Stumpy aint gonna make it. Humanely putting him down is the way to go.

Get some clove oil. Put fish in a bucket, couple gallons, with 3-4 drops of clove oil. The initial dose will heavily sedate him. 6-8 more drops will put him down. No gill movement equals no life. Sorry about Stumpy, but this is not a rare thing. Its often caused by injury. Did he thrash about his tank, maybe a jumper?

The lady I got him from said he was always jumping out of the tank. But she never cleaned the water, the tank was filthy.

Getting a bad start in life usually shows negative results later on. My rescue fish, traditionally over many years, do not live as long as ones I raise from babies. Not always, but certainly the high majority.

Stumpy is no longer with us. Its a sad day for us, but i went out to petsmart, and bought Cindy. Cindy is an albino tiger Oscar. Shes only about 3 inches long right now, and is really skidish when people walk up to the tank. Hopefully that will change. I used to love it when stumpy used to beg for food.
