Welcome to our little community.

How big is the tank and what sort of filtration have you got?

Normally I would suggest this is some kind of algae growth. However, for it to appear almost instantly is rather puzzling. Is it like dust? I'm wondering if something has been disturbed, maybe in the substrate? If possible, can you take a photograph for us?

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Sounds like diatoms, common in marine tanks, so much so if you don't get an outbreak there's something wrong!

Unusual in FW but not impossible, they can cover a tank in 24 hrs.

Don't worry, they aren't harmful. Some debate as to whether they're an algae or bacteria. You can use diatom meds, but they are antibiotics and not my first choice, they'll come off easily using a syphon.

Give them a google to see if it looks like your problem.
