My 5inch oscars tank was getting new substrate and i had him in a 300l 3/4 filled while i was doing this. He was in this for 2 nights. The water perimeters were perfect on this tank as i though maybe he jumped because of this. His temporary tank mate a bristlenose is fine. This morning i woke up to him outside the tank. The height from the water to over the tank is 20cm which i thought would be too high for him to jump. How is this even possible. Thats the reason it was 3/4 filled as it has no lid on that tank. I had a piece of cardboard covering it but obviously he just knocked it out of the way. The cats weren't involved as they were locked away. I am absolutely devastated. I've had him since mid march and have gotten so attached to him. I've been crying all morning. My husband is trying to comfort me saying i can just get another one. But im not sure i can and now his tank is just sitting all set up to how he likes it as i was going to put him back in this morning

i am sorry about your fish... oscar is no different from arowana who can jump -out of the tank... you are not alone with such sad experience...

your husband is right, having an established tank, it is easier to get a new one to ease the pain... just make sure to put some screen cover and add more water to maximize the tank volume capacity...
