Hi there, I have replied to you personally but for the benefit of anyone else, I will say it again on here.

I've said this a million times, fish are extremely difficult to diagnose, even experts have a problem. Cloudy eyes can be caused by things such as damage, parasites or nutritional problems. You could try giving them nutrients/vitamins in the food. You must test the water to make sure that all the parameters are fine. This means an ammonia and nitrite must be 0, not any trace readings whatsoever. Nitrate levels should be around 20-25 ppm. You should start carrying out extra tank maintenance. Do a small water change every other day if the fish is looking ill. If the condition starts getting worse and doesn't improve, you could start trying medication such as something for parasites. However, in cases like this, I would approach a vet and ask their advice before you start spending loads of money on medication. One of the problems with this is they would probably want to see the fish before actually advising you. It would cost you money for them to visit you say you have to think about that. There is no problem with taking the fish to them. You just have to make sure they know when you're coming so it doesn't take too long. Get a large bag from a local fish store so that the fish has plenty of water. That really is the last resort. Whether or not fish develop eye condition such as glaucoma, I really don't know. If they do, this could be a possibility as well

I always keep my fish health book next to the computer here and I have been doing some reading up on what can cause cloudy eyes a disease is called eye fluke. I did mention parasites in my last post on this subject but eye fluke is caused by parasites and is unfortunately very difficult to cure. If you can, take some photographs and we can compare them to pictures in the book

thank you to everyone who has tried to help on this matter i am going to introduce myself and mr boudroux so maybe you could check out the photos and let me know what you gather from them i certainly would prefer not to bring him to the vet because i am in the hurricaine area and we are still getting back to normal and it is probably the high level of iron in our water down here i did not think about that until reading these replies so thanks to you all

Ok Laura, I will put the photos in the gallery when I have made them a little smaller, they were both over 1 MB in size. I understand that you don't want to go to the vet. Unfortunately, a lot of the time they won't diagnose or help in any way unless they had seen the fish but you could ask their advice anyway. Maybe even send them the photo. I still think it would be a good idea to have a word with them on the phone. Tell him what I have said. I am going by my fish health book here, it is quite good and very helpful. I think every fish owner should get themselves a good fish health book, they really are invaluable at times

My oscar had the same thing about a month ago and after a week of changing water 10% per day he was fine again. I have also had experience of taking a sick oscar to the vet only to find that he did not know anything at all about the disease my fish had and not only that he said that antibiotics would be pointless as the bacteria would probably be immune to them. although saying that this is only the opinion of one vet, but i did find that oscarfishlover had alot more knowledge than my vet who by the way is superb with my dogs lucky enough. :)
