I hardly ever use abbreviations but sometimes they’re necessary. Besides, who actually wants to spell out beneficial bacteria!?

I am so glad that no one here does that though. It would be worse than ... Nevermind, I can not think of anything worse than that. I am guilty as charged for the occasional "LOL", but I think anyone under 50 is (and even then, I have seen 50+ year olds use hard core text talk before). ;)

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I have absolutely no objection to the abbreviated words such as LOL, OMG etc etc, and also abbreviated fish terminology such as HITH, SD etc etc. But abbreviating everyday words is what I really can't abide. If you are going to the zoo tomorrow then say tomorrow, not 2morrow, it's lazy and doesn't belong on this forum, leave it for the mobile phone.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

For texting language to be practical, it needs to contain far fewer characters than the unabbreviated text. Emily's example is barely shorter than the full text.

In this case the texting language becomes more an insider language and less a tool for efficient communication.......TIM
