Warlock1977 created the topic: Sad Moment

Last night I heard splashing around in my fishtank... I went back and turned on the light in the room to see my oscar "Spike" splashing the top of the water then diving to the corner of the tank. When I aproached the tank he stopped splashing and just went to that corner and laid down.. when I looked into the corner I found that my block spotted catfish had died at some point during the night... as I was using the net to scoop out the catfish "Spike" stayed by my hands side the hole time until I removed it from the water... It was sad almost like he was splashing to let me know something was wrong...

That sucks. He might have been telling you. They're so alert it wouldn't surprise me. Sorry to hear about Spike though.....cool name btw.

People call me Donnie. I've got one Tiger O in a 55USG.

sorry for the loss
make sure you check your water... your oscar might be acting strange for reasons other than to alert you your catfish was dead.
you might even do a water change just in case
though you probably have already thought of this

sorry for the loss. and i hope Spike would recover soon.

splashing is always a sign of problem... either they are
being bothered by other tank mates or by bad water conditions
or parasite. they darted away to shake off something that is why
we always reminded every one to check the water conditions or the
attitude of the tank mate whenever oscar splashes or darted in the
tank.

I'm sure spike will show signs of loss b/c my Oscar had a pleco for 8 yrs they grew up together and survived the worst water conditions imaginable, it was a month before he started to swim around like he wasn't sad. sorry but I'm glad you were a light sleeper you might have found spike on the floor.
