SaltyFishKeeper619 created the topic: 150g Stocking

Hello all. I have a 150g tank that I hope to get setup once more. I had to take it down do to the birth of my daughter. She is now moving into her own nursery so that means I'll be able to setup my tank again.

First things first. My wife has always wanted to a veil tailed oscar. Are these guys too much trouble arouND other larger cichlids?
I had hoped to replace my past Powder Blue Jack.

I do already have a 55g smaller community tank with guppies, mollies, a black shark as well as some Cory cats but I figure this space would be too vast for them.

Any feedback is helpful. Thank you for reading.

welcome to the community!

150 gal is already a good size... and you can keep a pair with some SD for tank activity..
Long Fin aka Veil Tail is also good but sometimes very sensitive to bullying...
though i have some in the community without any issue...

Hello and welcome to the site. Good volume at 150g, but footprint will play a role in stocking options. Severum are popular and generally excellent tankmates. Avoid anything with a snottier attitude, you dont want any damage to the long flowing finnage of a Veil. I would suggest that a single Oscar with a mild mannered mate or 2 would have better odds of success than 2 Oscars.

Thank you to you both for the greetinng!
I've still yet to decide. My wife is really pushing for a long fin, but as you folks stated about fins would just become more of a hassle. With my 150g I wasn't sure what size and how many fish I'd be able to keep. I know 75g for one O alone, so 150g I could house two. Then again there is a lot of bio load from just havin 1 why would I want 2?

I think I need other fish ideas :/

You can always just have a single long fin oscar in a 150g. It will fill it out nicely, and you won't have to do as much work with only one large oscar. You would also save by only have substrate on the bottom like #20 silica sand. The 150g would end up being her tank, which means that it would increase the chance for you to be able toget an 8foot long 300g+ tank in the future.

Happy wife = happy life.
