Bri B created the topic: Magic vanishing fish

So I woke up this morning and the little clown pleco I had in here vanished. I even removed the stupid deco to look inside of it. Looked in with a flashlight and nothing. Then I filled it with water shook it and dumped it out and no pleco. Pretty sure the Danios didn't eat him. Just crazy.

I meant stump deco not stupid but considering handsome Ron got himself in it and now it made a pleco dissappear it's pretty stupid

Maybe he could be inside of it still gripping the walls..I had a root thing that an asian bumble cat would get into

Yeah I figured that also but I took it out looked inside of it with a flashlight and I even filled it with water shook it up and emptied it and no pleco. So odd. If he is somehow inside in an area that isn't visible he's got one hell of a suction grip to have not come out.

There fins are like spines and can wedge themselves into some tight spaces

Do you have any filter intakes or outputs that he could fit in? They can go up outputs as well as intakes. They are designed for fast flowing water and are able to 'suck' themselves against very strong currents. Or if you have a HOB filter and the out flow portion is in the water far enough, he coulda got himself up in the body of that filter as well.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

Well he Def couldn't have gotten in the intake. It's a penguin hob filter a the bio wheel is right in the way if he did get there somehow. I'll take a look tho

Negative on him having gotten into the filter. I'm honestly going to have to break the thing in half to find him. If he's OK I'll put him back in the tank but I can't have a corpse contaminating the tank.

Did you check behind the tank incase he jumped out. I had a jack Dempsey missing for days and didn't think the hole for the heater in the lid was big enough for him to fit out of but sure enough I looked behind the tank and he was dried up stuck to the floor. Hopefully that's not the case for your fish. Even other places in the room on the floor because of how fish bounce and flop around when out of the water.
Goodluck, I hope your fish is alive hiding somewhere.
