UNC-CH wrote: Frank - it definitely works. I just finished a water change and nitrate is around 5ppm. But they recommend changing them every 2 months, and they may not last that long. For around $17 if they lasted 2 months and only needed to recharged every 2 weeks, I'd say they'd be worth it, since it seems they keep my nitrates around 10ppm or half of what they would be. But I'll have to see how long they're effective.

How long does the purigen last before you have to change it?

I spoilered my response to not derail the thread, and deleted his comment so you guys didn't go to town on it... and before you ask, I didn't PM because the thought kinda didn't even remotely cross my mind until way after the fact. Clever moment on my part I know. Anyway, I've now done what I should have done to begin with. You got to see it anyway so can't be all 'Lammmmmm what did I miss!' :P now!

@UNC: He's looking pretty big! Going to have to look into a tank upgrade soon

I'd like to get a bigger tank for him. I don't really have the space though, especially after I add the pothos filter to the side. It would have to be a tank about 5 x 2 x 2 ... 6 ft. would be too long. I'm not sure what I'd do with this 75g either. It might end up like his old 55g ... just sitting on the floor in the corner of a room.

This is a great example of why newcomers shouldn't get a baby oscar and put him in a small tank, like a 20 or 30 gallon. You spend all that $ on the tank, stand, filter, heater, etc., and then you have to buy a new 55 gallon with the stand, filters, heater, etc. But your oscar keeps growing so, like me, you move from a 55g to 75g, buying a new tank, stand, heater, and filter.

If new oscar owners knew the savings, they'd just get a 75 gallon to begin with.

You could go a 4x2x2, or even a 90 gal with a 4x2 footprint if you can get your hands on one.

4 x 2 x 2 would work. I was just checking and a 125g would probably fit when I get a new pc. Without an old desktop pc next to the tank, I think I could make room for it.

He looks good I like his markings.

Look at the 5' 120gl, I have one for my Oscar. A great size tank and big enough to add a couple of dithers if you choose.

1. that is one fierce tiger
2. very handsome.
3. yes, a 422 would be fantastic for the tiger.
4. bro, is the aggressive tiger in the clip the same tiger appearing in your avatar?

Yes, that's the same one. He's been very playful and aggressive recently. The only things different are krill soaked in vitachem and lower nitrate levels from more water changes.

He looks great, and I would go for 12". The colors are so vibrant on that fish it almost hurts to look at him. Can you imagine if you lost 6 inches of tank width (55)how massive he would look? Great job watched it 3 times.
