Your food is ok. Not the best, very far from poor. If thats all he will eat, so be it. Its neither too much nor too little. I would like to see him get a vary of things though. Ever try raw veg or fruit pieces? Odd that he snubs FD shrimp, Oscars are notorious for eating damn near anything. You could try something live, earthworms or crickets. Like I said before, Mo looks great, you just need to clean up his environment to give him the best shot at a long life

I've tried grapes before, he wouldn't touch it. I'll catch a few crickets and see what he does. I was tempted to grab a worm the other night after it rained, there were some monster earth worms crawling out onto the sidewalk but I didn't have anything to put it in because I was out and about.

My LFS was willing to take the pleco, they were also surprised that Mo refuses FD shrimp lol. They'll be making me a custom length water change system so I don't break my back with buckets. I'll be doing a 50% change when I get it on Tuesday or Wednesday, two days ago I did a 30% change. I'll do 50% changes twice a week and testing to watch the levels.

Wow, that is one beautiful fish! Great colouring and very healthy looking. What do you feed him/her on.

Thank you! I think it's a male but you know, hard to tell. I feed him Hikari Cichlid Gold large size pellets at the moment, I'm going to try and mix up his diet with crickets and/or earthworms

What fruits and veggies would you suggest? I wouldn't want to accidentally give him something he shouldn't have. Haven't tried earthworms yet nor crickets but I will

Ok so here's an update

I've done a 30% water change on Thursday, and one last night. The pleco has gone to the LFS.

Parameters are
pH 6.8
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 5

I swear I'm shaking the nitrate bottle #2 as hard as possible so unless my stuff is faulty I'm going to trust it. The exp date is in 2020.

Mo didn't go for freeze dried sardines until I held it to his face then after about a minute he grabbed it and made an absolute mess with it (as expected lol) he also loved the earthworm I gave him once he realized it fell to floor cuz he didn't quite have it through all his excitement. He's an extremely active Oscar and acts like he never gets any food when I go to feed him. Like I said about the amount of pellets I give him, if I were to give him more it just ends up in bits on the floor.

Anyone have suggestions with veggies and fruit bits? Anything your Oscars seem to like in particular when it comes to this? Any thoughts or tips greatly appreciated!

Zucchini, cucumber, squash, green pepper, oranges, apple, banana. All good if he will eat some. If he wont a good veg based pellet, something designed for herbivorous fish is a good addition. NLS algaemax, Northfin Veg formula, or on the cheaper side Hikari Excel. At your guys size and age, and considering tank size, its a good idea to feed every 2nd day. Good for the fish, good for the water quality in the aquarium. Less waste production. I still doubt your 5 nitrate reading, but throwing clean water at the fish is always a good thing. There is more than nitrate in the water column that should be flushed out. You are on the right track, thx for listening!

Tomorrow when I go to my LFS to pick up my water changer I will bring a sample of my water for testing so I can compare. I will test before I leave so I have an accurate comparison. My hand started to hurt I was shaking that bottle so hard lol
