well... as of 2 days ago ... "Otto" did not make it.

Seems he was a bit too much of a beat up rescue from the fish store... and combined with the tank conditions..... never quite go to the point of recovery.

I'm gutted. poor guy put up a fight.... his color never quite came back and his fins were tattered. I take 100% responsibility for putting a rescue type fish in a tank that was NOT ideal water parameters. RIP buddy. I really tried.

I've done an 80% water change, added some new carbon to an existing filter for now, and checked out the tank. Down to less than 5ppm nitrates. dropped some food in the tank and measured 24 hours later. 0 ammonia. 0 nitrite. less than 5 ppm nitrate. I guess I'll chalk this up to some bad luck and some bad assumptions. Wish I would have been a bit less brash before putting a baby oscar right on in there.

Anyways.... I will be getting a new oscar. thanks for the responses here guys. I'll make a new topic (likely tomorrow), with a healthy, NON DYING, O fish. After all.... a 75US Gallon tank with 8x turnover should be a haven for a little Oscar buddy.

Just thought I would update. Apolls for the bad news.

You did all you should do for that guy.

Best of luck for the new Oscar. Hope to see him grow in another topic at OFL
