You guys and/ or gals gave me a good wake up call. I did a big water change on my big boy and went and got test strips. Not bad...I'm sure had I tested before the water change it would have frightened me. Ammonia zero, pH 7.2, nitrites trace, chlorine zero. So nitrites must have been up there. And here I was saying his water was pristine...no wonder he leaped out. Anyway I am just on my way to do some holiday cooking. Will be doing bigger and more frequent water changes and testing until I get him up and running in his new abode. I just wanted to say thanks again and I hope you all have a great holiday.

Good job taking the advice. The only way to know how your water is doing is to test it. Unfortunately you got test strips. They are very inaccurate to the point of being a waste of time and money. Also you didn't mention nitrates which is something you'll want to test for and it's the most frequently tested thing in an established tank. You need to get a good liquid test kit. API freshwater master test kit is the one most people here use and can relate to in order to give you the best advice possible. :)

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.
