OFL created the topic: VW Beetle battery flat, can't open boot/trunk

I wonder if somebody can help with the problem one of my carers has with her daughter's car. Basically her daughter has gone to New Zealand for a year and her car is on her mother's driveway. She has intermittently been starting the car to keep the battery charge. However, for some reason the battery has gone completely dead. Now she can gain access to the vehicle using the key, but because you can only gain access to the boot and bonnet using electric switches, she can't get to the battery. Bloody stupid design if you ask me, but there must be an easy way around it.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Is there any positive or negative post under the hood in the engine compartment for boosting? What year is the vw?

any auto mechanic can handle it... but i am just surprised,
all car locks are supposed to be opened by key at any point..

The battery is under the back seat, if you are talking about an old school Beetle. Pull up on the seat cushion.

My favorite car.
