My daughter is turning 7 in a couple of weeks, and for months she has wanted a guinea pig. We finally decided to get her one, and found a breeder about an hour away. Well we ended up with two very pleasant females, and kept them in a rubbermaid container. Well today my dogs feasted on guinea pig, the door to the room they were in was not closed well. The real enclosure should be here today, but there is nothing to go into it. I have to face her soon, and I really don't know what to say. This really sucks.

Wow that really sucks!

I would just tell her what happened, but add that you will take her back to the Pet Store asap to replace them. This is nature at work! My four year old handles this stuff pretty well. Seven seems mature enough to deal with it.

Dude that sucks!

I have a 7 year old and I'm not sure how I would handle that situation.
Good luck.

She will probably handle it better than I think, but I will be a mess telling her.We have a huge collection of oddball stuffed animals, that she calls her snuggles. Everything from a stingray to a platapus, and she finally got one that was alive. I just hope I can keep it together when she gets home.

Heres what i would do with my 8 year olds, print off a pic of a guinea pig and put it in the cage and when she opens it tell her that you are going to take her to pick out her own. She will be so excited to be able to pick her own out that it wont matter to her that the cage is empty

I like the pic on the cage idea.

I had assumed that the robham was with his daughter when he picked the guinea pigs up. If they have had no contact with them, had not seen the little guys, and this was going to be a surprise for them, then by all means don't tell them. No need to unnecessarily traumatize them.

I just don't think it is worth lying to them about how they mysteriously disappear if they have already seen them. My little guy always asks questions and figures it out this kind of stuff anyway (not that this happens a lot!). Tough call either way.

Give us a report.

+1 on the not telling, I assumed she knew you had them? if not I would spare them the thought of your dogs eating her GP's.
