Hello i just got a 20 gallon tank with 3 fish , (1) 2"inch oscar and (2) 3inch catfish pictus
, i know the tank is too small for them but i am goin to move up in time , i been testing my water n adding ph fizz tabs n ammonia tabs while my fish were in water but i never did a water change yet , i do not have the proper equipment for it yet (for water changes)but here are some pics of my fish / test results
, anyone have any recommendations? and i wanna keep my oscar badly , also i do not have a heater, my temp stays between 72-80 and next to a tv but fish doesnt seem bother by it at all but i know my baby oscar hates light expecially cause its albino also? and my question is why does my oscar have those black spots
? and i had a black oscar that died days ago we took out the water not sure how it died but i think maybe the walmart had all sick oscars cause others had spots too anyway is it my water or the fish ? he seems fine he was shy when i fish got him hid from me and all but now when i come over he comes to top to eat and its been 4-5 days since i got the little fellow , also when i got him he was laying on bottom on side alot and not at all anymore he chills at bottom when led lights come on so i keep them off and hes very active then, sometimes all 3 fish hudle in a corner n sometimes just roam

Your tank is probably not cycled. Do you know what it means to cycle a tank and filter? If not do some research. You need a bigger tank tomorrow. 20 gallons is far to small even right now. If you can't get a new tank this week ( 80 gallons or so for them) return your fish and get something for that size tank. You need to do 50% water changes with a good water conditioner at least once a day until they get in a bigger tank. You need a heater. I think you are unprepared for the task of looking after a large messy fish like an oscar and honestly it would be a lot easier on you and the fish if you returned them, did a lot of research, prepared yourself and a cycled a tank properly before getting your oscar. Everyone here will be more than happy to walk you through it. Unfortunately your current setup is doomed for failure before long. You really need a proper size tank, filter, and heater soon for this to work. Sorry to be so down on you but I just want you to know where your headed.

Go do a water change - the solution to pollution is dilution.

I agree with this.... also please bear in mind pictures are extra susceptible to poor water conditions .. you could run into problems with them sooner than you are prepared for.. a new tank is the way forward mate. Good luck and keep us updated.

All that good stuff costs quite a bit. You could check Craigslist where you live , but I honestly think for now it would be best to return those fish until you learn more about fish keeping and can afford the required tank and filtration for them.
Otherwise you will only have more fish die.

Hello and welcome to the site. Oscars are, imo, one of the most rewarding cichlids to own. Unfortunately on your current path, you will not experience the pleasure of growing a 16in fish and keeping it for 15 yrs. Everything you need to know is available here. You really need to start over, obtain the proper equipment, learn about the nitrogen cycle, and all round fish care.

Don't touch the filter. It's cycling and you don't want to disturb it. Do 50% water change a day until you can get a bigger tank or rehome them. It will not work in a 20 gallon.

cycling will take roughly 4 weeks to finish ... you'll need a water test kit ( www.amazon.com/API-Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit/dp/B000255NCI ) - test that ammonia and nitrite = 0 and nitrate = >0

i would suggest not to clean the filter pads as you're still cycling ... if you see that the water flow is slowing down, clean the pads with your tank water (let's assume you took some out of the tank) and never use tap water to clean the pads.

Are you using some kind of chlorination like seachem safe?
