Ok so my son is gonna join the military when he graduates this year. So he's giving his O to a buddie(his dad has an O and just bought him a new 60 gal tank) Ive learned alot since I started coming to this site had a few tanks. Thinking of going back to a 125. With just Sarge and maybe a Endlicheri(Saddled) Bichir. Think they are called dragonfin also. But I'll have a 46bowfrount to start him out in. Thoughts?

If you're son's Oscar is full size or close to it, then I wouldn't really suggest putting him and another fish into a 46 gallon tank. Unless the 125 gallon tank is something that you already have I wouldn't even put the Oscar into the 46 gallon tank alone. There just isn't enough space. If the 125 gallon tank is available now, then by all means rock and roll. I'm not sure on if a Bichir can be in a tank with an Oscar, but I'm sure someone will chime in on that part and let you know.

If the Bichir (I've always known them as Polypterus!!) is tiny, 46GL would be OK for the very short term. I personally have never had one, but have sold them in the past & I do know that they get to be a BIG fish....as in 38". I think you would need a much bigger aquarium than a 125GL. B)

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

Once P. endlicheri congictus are the largest bichirs and their growth dramatically slows down after 18". There are many different P. Endlicheri variants, with congictus reaching eventually 3 feet. Find out which variant you have to determine the growth rate.
