Azrael created the topic: Any Tips for cleaning a used tank?

I've had my eye on a 70 gallon tank on craigslist, But, I guess they kept lizards in it previously.

If I were to get it what would be the best method for cleaning it out? products or techniques?

Thanks!

If the tank has dried out in the news for a while, I think the chances of anything horrible being left in the tank quite slim. However, I think it's a good idea to give it a quick washout. I don't think you have to go too mad, hot water and washing-up liquid would suffice I would say. If you want to be totally sure, you could add a small amount of bleach into some hot water and give it a good rince out. Just make sure you flush it out thoroughly with water.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I am returning to the hobby, but I always liked to clean what I can w/ vinegar/water, then clean w/ straight water. Just something I used to do and maybe is useless as far as I know.

Thanks for the tips guys. The person is asking $100 for the 70 gallon, so tommorrow I'm going to look at the price of some new tanks, I'd like to get a 125 gallon if possible but I'm not sure the wife will go for it :( ...he just seems so crowded, width wise, in the 55 gallon.
