shopping4oscar created the topic: 75 galons setup - sanity check

Hello fellow oscar lovers

I am setting up a new 75 US gallons (283.9 liters) tank and considering buying one Oscar for it. His tank mates will be three Synodontis catfish. ( www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=121 )

My concern is whether I am overcrowding the tank with this setup. The Synodontis now share a 24 US gallons nano cube with 3 yoyo loaches and they barely fit there. Am I running into problems with this setup? I got Eheim canister filter for 150g tanks but I definitely don't want to end up with a high-maintenance tank.

Thanks!

The biggest of the catfish is now around 6 inches long. Some Web sites say they can grow up to 8 inches. These poor fellows are now in 24 galons :( They are also nocturnal and hide somewhere most of they day.

So, right now for me it is a choice of one lovely Oscar or 2-4 smaller cichlids. I just hope one oscar and these 3 fish would not be too much for my tank.

Thank you!

You will fine with the 4 fish mentioned, its just a question of if you are prepared to do the maintenance. Put them in and test the water weekly. If you nitrates start to get too high then you will have to do more or larger water changes. If you find the water changes are too much for you then you will have to get rid of some fish. Time will tell
