I am looking for a small jaguar cichlid, in the 3-5inch range, I am willing to pay a good price for it :)
It will be given a good home in my 150gal tank along with 2 oscars

A Jag would really not be a good fit w/ Oscars, as it will eventually claim that entire 150 as its' territory.......

THOSE WHO REFUSE KNOWLEDGE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL.

WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL UTTERLY, COMPLETELY, & MISERABLY.

I could catch them down at miami but it's just too far away and I would need local knowledge to know where to catch them and what they are biting on.

And I am pretty sure things will work out, since it's going to be only them and the jaguar will hopefully be smaller than my oscars so they will keep him in line, oscars are not aggressive, just territorial, and in 150gallons I believe there won't be a poblem with territory, I will make sure there's plenty of aquatic structure so they can claim their own territories, but if anything goes wrong I will get rid of an oscar.

I am aware that jags have a bad reputation and are very aggressive.

where are you in Florida? im in Deltona in the middle of Daytona and Orlando! If i wanted to catch O's or any others i'd have to travel far too like miami i know the everglades they say is the hot spot!!!! the canals. Also keep in mind if you did here in florida O's are considered game fish like bass!!! Just found that out!!! They have to be hooked and a certain size cannot be netted!!!

Your O's are not what you need to worry about, Jags can be viscous at even a few inches. I was just looking at one in the pet store a few days ago that was maybe 2" and they had him in with a 4" O and the O had no fins left :( I would only stock a jag with equally highly aggressive fish and even then be ready to come home to a blood bath someday.........but good luck

I'm in broward, it's like a 1 1/2hr trip down to miami, the everglades is huge!!so finding a particular hot spot would be quite hard without a guide
I have found that the Oscars down here are really dark and some are even greenish, probably because of the unrelenting sun, which makes them develop dark pigmentation. I have caught some really big Os down here, anywhere from 8-12inches long, they are pretty good eating too, and fight their hearts out when hooked.
I didn't know there were regulations for Oscars  ! Since they are an invasive species I thought they let you keep as many as you may want, just like snakeheads! :pinch:

What other aggressive fish are out there suitable to be in the same tank as a jag?dovii cichlids, arowanas? I think that aggression depends on the jag's personality, some people have demented jags while others have jags that have no problem being with other fish...at least that's what I think

People leave them on the side of the street after catching them because they claim to hate them soo much!!! crappy! i think it may be differant in differant counties have no idea but the guy that owns a bait shop by us told my husband about it. I'll have to further look into it!!! yeah the everglades is huge!!! and ha it would take me 4 hours to get to Miami!!! aint going any time soon.

Do me a favor, ask Necromancer4 about his Jag before you add one to an Oscar tank! ;)
