OFL created the topic: 300 gallon aquarium.... What's it worth?

Hey guys, looking for a bit of advice. How much do you think a 300 gallon aquarium measuring 8' x 2.5' x 2.5 is worth? The tank has to overflow boxes so a sump filter can be fitted underneath in the cabinet. However, I also have a sump filter that will be going with the tank, it's approximately 70 gallons. I have absolutely no idea what a realistic price I could ask for the tank and filtration

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

i know you're overseas - but hopefully i can help a little???

from what i saw from my local posts - 300 gal = $2500 + sump (200) = i would say more or less $3000

would it come with filters / stand / light???

ok I just sold my 150gal tank with cabinet, just standard filters slight damage and no heaters for £300 I wanted £400 but went out side of ebay so £300 was fair price as it cost me £760 new so no real loss.

I would say your tank is well worth £500 and more so to the £700 mark depending on damage. Most people look for the tank it self whether lights work, how easy to move is it scratched, water damaged etc. But if you do advertise dont let them talk you down because I had people saying look I will give you £150 as thats all it is worth and I replied with I know what it is worth thank you.

The guy I finally sold to seems very pleased and happy with purchase and he explained he wanted it for £200 but once I explained why I wouldnt sell for less than £300 he was like yea you have vbery valid point and you are being very fair.

So you got to think how much did it cost you? How long have you had it? What do you want to achieve? I mean just get rid of it out of your way to good owner or do you want some thing back.

I mean I would sell for about £700 or advertise to start with at that and see what interest you get.

I dont think I would go below £700 unless you really want rid of it as Im guessing it cost you closs £2000 as thats how much they were when I look to buy one thats why I made plywood :)

sorry if my prices are inflated .. that's what i see around me.

yeah i would agree with jnet ~ if you're looking to profit, don't think you'll get much back.

Actually, the tank wasn't that expensive. I had it custom-made in 2007, I think I paid about £750. I don't think it's going to be the price I'm asking for that stops people wanting it, it's going to be the size of the dam thing, or how many people want or have got the space for a tank this size. And even if they do want it, they are going to need a sizeable van plus about six blokes the size of Arnold Schwarzenegger to lift it.

you will never know, people like... jnet... would buy something like that and have a way to get it to their destination. that's not a lot of $$$ compare to where i'm from.

a 120 would go for $500 ~ for a used tank ~ that's just insane.

Over here in canada, the rule of thumb is this..

Used tanks with no acc's are a buck a gal.
If you have filters, lights ect.... Then it's 2 bux a gal...

so your 300, would be 600 and change...

I honestly thik you could put it on for £700

If someone wants it they will find a way to get it and you can also drop money off when bartering. The guy that brought mine brought two mates and they were all skin head muscle men so they knew what they were buying. :) I did explain it was 6foot and a van along with atleast two people would be needed.

$800 for the entire setup would be a good place to start.

but i think your right. it defo comes down to finding someone with enough space and know how. also access to a large truck.
