I really like the looks of the motageunse cichlids, do you have any personal experience or care information, and most important, will they be fine in a 90 gal for life ?

I like the motageunse most, and hear they can be absolute terrors, which I like. Any advice for caring for them?

As with any cichlid the 3 keys to success are tankspace, clean water and quality diet. I got my Mota in early November around 2.5ins. Has doubled in size, is a voracious eater, and already a very good wet pet. Until the camera comes out, absolutely freaks out. Tank is a 75g, filter is a Filstar 3 stage canister. tank temp is 80-81. 75% water change every 4-5 days. Devours every brand of food I have on hand for 10 tanks of CA/SA cichlids. An awesome fish to this point.

Get a female Mota. Male will likely be cramped in 90g when it exceeds a foot long

i still have a few questions if your willing to answer
is a 90 gal enough for life?
what food do you recommend for such a beast?
I understand filtration is an absolute must, so should I use a canister or multiple hob filters?

and thanks for all your help,
Matt

90g will hold a female Mota for life. I like a canister/hob combo for cichlid tanks. I love the API Filstar canisters. Quiet, efficient and reliable. I have quite a few, oldest at about 9yrs. Still runs perfect. My 90g with single cichlid has a Filstar xpl and a pair of Aquaclear 70 hob's. A single 110 is also a great filter, but the 70's came off a tank I shut down, so to keep them mature and ready for whenever, I keep them running. Canisters offer superior bio filtration, hobs better mechanical. For diet, I use quality pellets as a staple. Omega1, Northfin and Hikari. Treats are FD krill, chopped shrimp and tilapia chunks. I also use a vitamin supplement. Boyd's VitaChem or Seachem Nourish. My bigger CA's get a good dose of Hikari Massivore, and baby Mota loves that too!
