Matt created the topic: Ehiem Quick Vac Pro

So I've had one of these for a while now and was waiting to see how I liked it before writing a review.

For those interested in maintaining clean tanks without the hassle of a w/c, this may be the tool for you. It does not admonish you from doing water changes by any means, so don't get me confused there. What it does do, is simplify getting waste out of the tank.

I bought this for my business, yes I clean fish tanks, just like Deuce Biggalow, deal with it! It is a little on the pricey side for a vac, but to me, well worth the investment. The time is saves not having to fill and drain bucket after bucket for minimal waste is awesome.

Now if you haven't seen one, it's pretty simplistic in design. It has a vac tube, a small impeller, and a micro screened filter chamber. Water is pulled up the vac tube, and forced into the filter chamber, waste and other debris will collect in the filter and water is returned to the tank waste free.

Time savings, lets talk about that. Since I bill by the hour, time is of the essence to me and my customers, so the less time i'm fooling around with buckets and traditional vac's the better. In some context, I have 3 tanks at home, it used to take me a good hour or more just to vac all the tanks, now it's done in about 20 minutes.

In a couple weeks of using the tool, I haven't really noticed any real negatives to it. It's fully submersible, up to 3' of water and the suction is more than adequate to lift any debris or waste from the bottom of the tanks. With proper care of the vac after use, ie: cleaning the filter chamber, and the pieces of the vac and impeller motor, this should serve for well beyond the two years Eheim guarantees it for.

So now that you've made it through that wall of text, hope you'll consider this vac.

I noticed people complaining about the battery cover not being water tight so the batteries end up getting wet. I went and bought ones of these vacs and noticed the battery cover just didn’t fit tight so I took it back without even using it. After reading this review I want to give it a second shot.

I've never used one of these before, mind you I've got sand so it probably wouldn't be any good. I do get a little annoyed these companies advertising strategy, they're saying it extends intervals between water changes. I wish they wouldn't Use these tactics as it could make people lazy and think that water changes are not necessarily when we on Oscarfishlover always try and promote regular water changes.

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

I agree. I would want it for picking up uneaten food and waste. I to have sand in my 210 and do water changes of 50 percent two times a week. I wouldn't use the vac to space out my water changes.

I don't use it to space out the water changes, I use it on my sand to clean up waste and uneaten food debris.

It works great on my play sand, gets some of the finer particles but I can live with it.

As for the water leakage into the battery compartment, I've never had an issue with that. The things aren't submarines and aren't intended to go very deep in the water. As long as the cover is secured properly I don't think there's much to worry about.
